Oxfam India reaches to over 15,000 people in Kerala

Floods left lakhs of people homeless and at a high risk of water-borne diseases. The aftermath of floods is when people need special care and attention. Oxfam India continues to respond to the affected families through urgent and long-term support after floods wreaked havoc in Kerala.
With support from people like you, Oxfam India distributed shelter and hygiene kits to 3,121 affected families as urgent aid. As also provided safe water through cleaning, restoring and purifying 139 open wells, ponds etc. Oxfam installed 700 water filtration systems at the community level.

Importance on women hygiene
Menstruation hygiene is a huge challenge during disaster especially when there is a high risk of water-borne diseases. Oxfam India engaged with flood-affected women in marginalized communities through our water, sanitation and hygiene program (WASH). The team distributed sanitary pads to women and girls as also taught them ways to protect themselves and their families from the deadly rat fever and other water-borne diseases.
Supplying clean water
In the most affected districts of Kerala, Oxfam India's team cleaned water wells and installed water tanks for the continuous and long-term supply of water.
Engaging with Gram Panchayat
Oxfam India aims to support 22,500 households with long-term recovery and rehabilitation. Early recovery measures are being implemented, advocacy and influencing activities are being held with the government officials. Targeting and integrating government schemes activities so people are able to bounce back to normalcy.
The team is also coordinating with community-based organizations and other humanitarian action groups to provide long-term support to affected families.
